Archbishop Phiri Marks 39 Years During Holy Cross Parish Feast

Holy Cross Parish in Kabushi was alive with colour and joy as parishioners gathered to celebrate their feast day on the Solemnity of the Exaltation of the Cross. The occasion was made even more special as His Grace, Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri JCD, also marked his 39th anniversary of priestly ordination. The Archbishop was warmly welcomed by Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Kelvin Bwalya, and joined by the Dean of Bwana Mkubwa Deanery, Rev. Fr. Raphael Chanda. The celebration was highlighted by the conferring of the Sacrament of Confirmation on 39 candidates, who joyfully received the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the presence of their families and parish community. During his homily, Archbishop Phiri reflected on the true meaning of the Cross. He reminded the faithful that the Cross is not just a symbol to be worn but a way of life to be lived. He challenged the congregation to live lives that reflect their Christian identity, emphasizing that true discipleship requires daily witness, sacrifice and commitment to Christ. The Archbishop expressed gratitude for the parish’s recognition of his priestly anniversary but humbly reminded the faithful that all glory belongs to God, for without His grace the journey would not have been possible. After Mass, Archbishop Phiri laid the cornerstone and blessed the foundation of the new parish administration block, a sign of growth and hope for the future of Holy Cross Parish.
