Cassock Investiture Mass.
On 18th April 2026, Ndola Archbishop, Dr. Benjamin Phiri, JCD, celebrated Mass at St. Patrick’s Parish. The Mass was marked by a Cassock Investiture for seminarians. A cassock investiture is a significant step in priestly formation within the Catholic Church. During this rite, seminarians are formally vested with the cassock, symbolizing their new identity, commitment, and deeper dedication to the path of priesthood. It marks a visible sign of their intention to belong more fully to Christ and the Church as they continue their formation. The Rector of St. Benedict Major Seminary, Rev. Fr. Brian Mutale, warmly welcomed the Archbishop and his entourage, which included the Pastoral Director and the Vocations Director. In his homily, Archbishop Phiri spoke on the new identity of the seminarians, urging them to wear the cassock with dignity and at all required times. He reminded them that their journey is still ongoing and cautioned that not all of the eleven candidates may reach ordination. He encouraged them to remain open to formation and to allow themselves to be shaped spiritually, intellectually, and morally. He further emphasized the importance of focus and discipline, stating his desire for priests who are committed, well-formed, and free from vices such as drunkenness. He called on the seminarians to live lives worthy of their calling and to remain steadfast in their vocation. Following the homily, the seminarians were formally invested with the cassock in the presence of their families and friends, as well as their formators, lecturers, spiritual directors, and other clergy who had gathered to witness this important milestone. The celebration concluded in a joyful and hopeful atmosphere, marking a meaningful step in the journey of the seminarians toward the priesthood.
