Ordination to Diaconate 2025
Seven Ordained to the Diaconate at Cathedral of Christ the King in Ndola Today, Saturday, 5th July 2025, the Cathedral of Christ the King in Ndola was the scene of great joy and solemn celebration as seven men were ordained to the Diaconate by His Grace, Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri. The church was filled to capacity with faithful from across the Archdiocese, priests, religious, families, and friends of the candidates, all gathered to witness this important step in the lives of the newly ordained deacons. The celebration was vibrant, with lively singing and dancing from Ba Buomba, and impressive marching by the Stella and Xaferi groups, adding cultural and spiritual richness to the liturgy. The Mass was also attended by the Vicar General, as well as superiors from the Capuchin Fathers and the Neocatechumenal Way, who came to support the ordinands. In his homily, Archbishop Phiri addressed the deacons directly, emphasizing that the path they have chosen is both sacred and demanding. He warned that external pressures and temptations will arise, and only a life rooted in prayer and discipline will sustain them. He spoke strongly on the need to cut off vices that lead to sin, reminding them that holiness is non-negotiable in ministry. He described the diaconate as a calling of selfless service, where one offers their entire life for the good of others and the mission of the Church. Despite the sacrifices, he assured them that it is a beautiful and rewarding vocation, as they walk closely with God and will receive blessings both in this life and the life to come. The celebration concluded with heartfelt congratulations and prayers, marking a new beginning for the seven deacons in their journey of faith and service.
