Pastoral Visit to Resurrection Parish, Chingola

Pastoral Visit to Resurrection Parish, Chingola

On 28th July 2025, His Grace, Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri JCD, celebrated a joyful Mass at Resurrection Parish in Kapisha, Chingola on the Day for the Elderly. He was warmly welcomed by Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Martin Chama Bwalya and Rev. Fr. Simon Kaunda, Parish Priest of St. Stephen Parish, who came to support the occasion. This marked the archbishop’s first pastoral visit to Resurrection Parish since his appointment to the Archdiocese of Ndola, drawing a full congregation. The celebration was made even more special by the consecration of the newly constructed altar and the blessing of the renovated church building, which has seen impressive improvements from wall finishes and a repainted exterior and interior, to a refurbished ceiling, tiled floors, and renovated administrative offices. The Mass also included the Sacrament of Confirmation for 96 candidates, a moment of grace and commitment to faith. In his homily, Archbishop Phiri spoke with deep concern about true conversion, warning that even in church, theft of personal belongings happens—showing the need for genuine transformation. He urged the faithful, especially the youth, to live holy lives and honour their parents, noting the sad reality of children neglecting parents in life, only to buy expensive coffins in death. “The blessing is released when parents are alive,” he emphasized. After Mass, the Archbishop officially blessed and opened the parish grotto, adding a sacred and serene space for prayer to the vibrant community. The event ended joyfully with vibrant singing from the combine Choir, the Ba Buomba and dancing by Stella and Xaferi Marching Group.
