Poor Clares Fundraising Half Marathon.

Poor Clares Fundraising Half Marathon.

The community of Fisenge in Luanshya came alive with color, cheer, and purpose as Catholics and well-wishers took part in a spirited marathon to raise funds for the construction of a monastery for the Sisters of the Poor Clare. The event drew a large crowd of runners and supporters, united in faith and commitment to help build a permanent home for the contemplative nuns. The marathon was officially flagged off by His Grace, Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri, who also participated in the 5km run alongside Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. Felix Mutati, Luanshya Mayor, Hon. Charles Mulenga, and Zambia Athletics President, Major Bernard Bwalya. Their presence added weight to the event and showcased their solidarity with the cause. The race featured 21km and 10km categories with top male and female runners in the 21km walk/run each walking away with a goat, while the 10km winner received a lamb. Medals were awarded to all participants, making it a fun-filled day of celebration, fitness, and charity. The Sisters of the Poor Clare have dedicated their lives to prayer, silence, and service—offering their entire existence for the spiritual good of others. Now, they need our help. The construction of their monastery is not just a building project—it is the creation of a sacred space where generations of nuns will live, pray, work, and grow in holiness. Over K2.7 million has already been raised, but K10 million is needed to complete this holy sanctuary. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings them closer to their dream. Whether you are able to give K20 or K20,000 or construction materials, your support will help build a permanent home where these women of faith can continue their quiet but powerful mission.
