Today, 7th June 2026, the Archbishop of Ndola, Most Rev. Dr. Benjamin Phiri, JCD, celebrated the Solemnity of Corpus Christi at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Ndola. Corpus Christi, which means “Body of Christ,” is a feast of the Catholic Church dedicated to honoring the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist. The celebration reminds the faithful that, according to Catholic teaching, the bread and wine consecrated at Mass truly become the Body and Blood of Christ. In his homily, Archbishop Phiri emphasized the reverence Catholics should have for the Eucharist. He noted that many fail to appreciate that Christ present in the Blessed Sacrament deserves greater honor than any king, chief, or president because He is our Creator and Savior. The Archbishop spoke about the privilege of receiving Holy Communion and warned against receiving the Eucharist unworthily. He cautioned against treating Confession as a mere formality in order to receive Communion while continuing in the same sins without genuine repentance. He called on the faithful to take their relationship with Christ in the Eucharist seriously and to approach the sacrament with faith, reverence, and a sincere desire for conversion. During the Mass, a number of children received their First Holy Communion, marking an important milestone in their faith journey. Following the Prayer after Communion, the celebration continued with a Eucharistic procession through the streets of Ndola. The faithful accompanied the Blessed Sacrament in prayer and song, stopping at three prepared stations where reflections on the Body and Blood of Christ were given. The celebration concluded with Eucharistic Adoration back at the Cathedral, bringing to a close a prayerful and faith-filled observance of the Solemnity of Corpus Christi.
