St Mary – Kamuchanga

St. Mary’s Parish is located in Kamuchanga Township of Mufulira District on the Copperbelt Province – Zambia.
In 1965 Fr. Peter Saunders a Missionary of Africa (White Father) was sent to open an out-station of St. Lawrence in Kamuchanga. The Catholic faithful of Kamuchanga embraced this new development and started to congregate at Kamuchanga Primary School for mass and other church activities.
The increase in number of the Catholic faithful of Kamuchanga motivated Fr. Saunders to start building the Church. In April 1968, St. Mary’s became a parish under the inspiration and spiritual guidance of Fr. Saunders. May he rest in peace.
St. Mary’s Catholic Church started to grow as a parish in so many ways such that after a number of years, it started to open out-stations in the outskirts of Kamuchanga some of which later became parishes. These are; St. Peter-Kansuswa, St. Theresa-Kawama and St. Michael-Chibolya. In 2006, the four out-stations along Ndola road were handed over to St. Francis and Clare parish of Ndeke Township.
