Bishop George Lungu Celebrates 40 Years of Priesthood

The faithful gathered at St. Joseph Parish in Itawa, Ndola, for a colourful and joyful Mass celebrating Bishop George Lungu’s 40th Anniversary in Priesthood. The event was graced by Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri, who concelebrated the Mass with Bishop Lungu as the main celebrant. They were warmly welcomed by Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Bernard Kapembwa and Assistant Rev. Fr. Nicodemus Mwewa. In his homily, Bishop Lungu shared a heartfelt message of encouragement, urging the faithful to “never give up.” He recounted personal stories from his birth and childhood, emphasizing that no one should be written off as useless, for God can transform any situation. He spoke on God’s providence, noting that challenges in his ministry only strengthened his faith. “I never had a plan B,” he said, “because my focus was to serve God wholeheartedly.” At the end of Mass, Archbishop Phiri expressed his joy, recalling his long friendship with Bishop Lungu that began in 1980 during their seminary days, spanning almost 45 years to date. He congratulated him on his 40 years of dedicated service and encouraged him to continue to press in to his ministry as there was still more work for him. The celebration was marked by vibrant singing and dancing from the choir, Ba Stella, Ba Buomba and great Marching from Xaferi Movement , making it a truly memorable occasion. After Mass, the bishops interacted with parishioners and had a Photo session with them.
