The Catholic Archdiocese of Ndola on Tuesday, 24th March 2026, held its Chrism Mass at the Cathedral of Christ the King, bringing together clergy, religious sisters and brothers, and the laity. The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri, JCD. The Chrism Mass, traditionally celebrated during Holy Week, on Thursday morning, However, for pastoral reasons, it may be celebrated on another day as close as possible to Holy Thursday during the Lenten season. During this liturgical event, the Sacred Chrism is consecrated, and the oils of the Sick and Catechumens are blessed. It also provides an opportunity for priests to renew their priestly commitment. In his homily, Archbishop Phiri urged both clergy and lay faithful to deepen their relationship with God through prayer to be enlightened. Reflecting on the current challenges facing our society, he noted that we are a blind community, referencing the growing concern over violence, including incidents such as Kalumbila mobile justice. He called on the Church to be a sign of hope, encouraging priests, religious men and women, and lay faithful to act as bridges of peace within their communities. During the celebration, Fr. Thomas Chunika expressed appreciation to Fr. Costa Cheepa for facilitating a priests’ study day themed “Family at the Crossroads.” In his closing remarks, Archbishop Phiri encouraged clergy to actively disseminate the study materials across deaneries, parishes, and Small Christian Communities.
