Dedication of St. Josaphat Catholic Church.

On 8th November 2025, the faithful of Kasumbalesa gathered in great joy for the dedication of the new St. Josaphat Catholic Church, formerly known as St. Paul Sub-Parish of St. Mary’s Parish- Konkola, Chililabombwe. The Archbishop of Ndola, Dr. Benjamin Phiri, JCD, was warmly welcomed by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Thomas Makandwe, parishioners, and local leaders. The dedication Mass celebrated by Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri, JCD and concelebrated by the Vicar General- Very Rev. Fr. Lewis Mutachila, along with priests from the senior management team, clergy from across the Archdiocese, and visiting priests from the Mansa and Lusaka dioceses. The celebration was vibrant and filled with faith, as all lay groups took active roles in the liturgy. The Ba Buomba and parish choir led the congregation in beautiful song, the Stella women danced gracefully, and the Xavier movement added colour and energy with a spirited march, creating a truly joyful and prayerful atmosphere. During the solemn rite of dedication, Archbishop Phiri consecrated the altar, tabernacle, and the new church building with holy water, incense, and sacred oil, symbolizing the presence and holiness of God dwelling among His people. In his deeply reflective homily, Archbishop Phiri emphasized that while the new church building stands as a visible sign of God’s blessings, the true Church is made up of the people who live out their faith daily. He reminded the congregation that God desires not just grand structures, but hearts that are converted and filled with His Spirit. He called on the faithful to pursue true conversion, worshipping God in spirit and in truth, and living lives that radiate Christ’s love and mercy. The Archbishop urged parishioners to ensure that their conduct outside the church reflects the holiness celebrated within it. He also commended the parish for their unity and sacrifice in building a house worthy of God’s name, noting that such commitment shows that the Kingdom of God is truly growing in Kasumbalesa.
