On 4th April 2025, Archbishop, Dr. Benjamin Phiri, JCD celebrated the Easter Vigil Mass at the Cathedral of Christ the King. The beautiful celebration began outside the church with the lighting of the Easter Candle, symbolizing the light of Christ rising from the darkness of the tomb. The faithful then processed into the church, each carrying a candle, as the light was shared among the congregation signifying the spread of Christ’s resurrection light to the world. This was followed by a series of Scripture readings that recount the history of salvation, leading into the joyful celebration of the Resurrection. The liturgy then continued with the normal order of the Mass. In his homily, Archbishop Phiri proclaimed the Good News of the Resurrection, declaring that Christ is risen and that the reign of terror of the devil has been overcome. However, he reminded the faithful that they have a role to play: they must be willing to let go of everything that separates them from God. He warned against becoming attached to worldly pleasures, noting that such pursuits ultimately lead to spiritual death, while true life is found in Christ. He called on all believers to remain focused on doing God’s will, to pray continually, and to live in such a way that their names may be written in the Book of Life. Following the homily, the Archbishop administered the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation to six candidates. The congregation also participated in the renewal of baptismal promises, reaffirming their faith. The celebration then proceeded with the consecration of the Eucharist, culminating in a joyful and spiritually uplifting conclusion to the Mass.
