Memorial Mass for Late Bishop Dennis De Jong.

The Cathedral of Christ the King in Ndola , today September, 17th 2025, was filled with prayer and solemn remembrance today as Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri JCD, together with clergy and the lay faithful, celebrated a Memorial Mass for the late Bishop Dennis De Jong. The Eucharistic celebration brought together priests, religious, and parishioners, all united in honoring the memory of the late bishop who served the Church and the people of God with dedication and humility. In his homily, Archbishop Phiri reflected on the life and witness of Bishop De Jong, describing him as a shepherd deeply committed to his mission. He urged the faithful to emulate the example of Christ, who through His life and death showed the true meaning of service and sacrifice. The Archbishop also reminded all present that life on earth is temporary, warning that “our time will come” and stressing the need for constant readiness so that when the Lord calls, we may not be found wanting. Following the Mass, the congregation joined in a solemn procession to Bishop De Jong’s burial site within the grounds of the Cathedral. Prayers were offered, and Archbishop Phiri blessed the tombstone as a final act of reverence. The event was marked by deep reflection, gratitude, and a renewed call to faithfulness, ensuring that the legacy of Bishop Dennis De Jong continues to inspire the Church in Ndola Archdiocese and beyond.
