New St. Agnes of Assisi Sub-Parish.

On 14th February 2026, Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri celebrated Holy Mass to elevate St. Mary’s Queen of Africa Centre, under St. Anthony Parish, Mikofwa, to the status of a sub-parish, officially renaming it St. Agnes of Assisi Sub-Parish. The Archbishop was warmly welcomed by the Priest-in-Charge, Rev. Fr. Kasonde, OFM. Notable in attendance were the Minister Provincial of the Order of Friars Minor (OFM) for Zambia and Malawi, Rev. Fr. Mathews Kasongo, OFM, and the Pastoral Director, Rev. Fr. Ephraim Mulenga Mapulanga, along with other clergy, religious, and the lay faithful. During the Mass, Archbishop Phiri expressed his joy at being able to elevate the centre to a sub-parish. He thanked Fr. Kasonde, his pastoral team, and the lay faithful for their dedication and hard work in meeting the requirements for sub-parish status. He reminded the congregation that beyond structures and recognition, what truly matters is their Christian faith and whether they are able to live out and faithfully witness to the faith they profess. The Archbishop emphasized that a higher status comes with greater responsibility and urged the faithful to work diligently in strengthening both their personal faith and the life of the Church. He strongly cautioned against living a double standard life—embracing practices such as witchcraft, drunkenness, and adultery while pretending to be committed Christians. He called on the faithful to live authentic Christian lives marked by integrity and holiness. During the celebration, the Archbishop also appointed Rev. Fr. Evaristo Mwape as the new Priest-in-Charge of the newly established sub-parish. The church, filled to capacity, resounded with joyful singing and ba Buomba, making the occasion both vibrant and spiritually uplifting as the community celebrated this significant moment in its journey of faith.
