Pentecost Sunday at St. Anne Parish, Butondo.

Pentecost Sunday was marked with great joy and reverence at St. Anne Parish in Butondo, Mufulira, where His Grace Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri presided over the celebration of the Holy Mass. The Archbishop was warmly welcomed by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Bwalya, along with a large and enthusiastic congregation. Pentecost, celebrated fifty days after Easter, commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and marks the birth of the Church. It is a feast of renewal, empowerment, and mission—reminding Christians of their calling to live and witness to the Gospel in the power of the Holy Spirit. In his homily, Archbishop Phiri preached on the importance of true conversion—not just in words, but in heart and lifestyle. He reminded the faithful that the Holy Spirit transforms lives, bringing about genuine repentance, healing, and strength to live in accordance with God’s will. During the Mass, the Archbishop conferred the Sacrament of Confirmation on over 80 candidates, sealing them with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. He also took a moment to bless all those celebrating their birthdays in the week and offered a special blessing of water for the faithful to take home as a sign of spiritual refreshment and protection. After the Eucharistic celebration, Archbishop Phiri extended his pastoral care by blessing the newly constructed parish administration block, marking a significant milestone in the life of the parish. The celebration was filled with the joy and fire of Pentecost, leaving the parish community spiritually renewed and strengthened in their faith.
