Rev. Fr. Peter Chiti Chilufya celebrates 25 Years.

On 25th October 2025, the parish of Our Lady of Africa in Kitwe was filled with joy and thanksgiving as Rev. Fr. Peter Chiti Chilufya celebrated 25 years of priesthood under the theme “All is Grace.” The Vicar General, Very Rev. Fr. Lewis Mutachila, presided over the Jubilee Mass on behalf of Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri, JCD, who was unable to attend. He was warmly welcomed by the parish priest, Fr. Alex Shabasefu, and assistant priest, Rev. Fr. Charles Munugwe. Rev. Fr. Chilufya, who currently serves as Spiritual Director at St. Benedict’s Major Seminary, was ordained on 30th September 2000 by the late Bishop Dennis De Jong at Holy Trinity Parish, Kabushi. Over the years, he has devoted much of his ministry to guiding young men discerning their vocations to the priesthood. During his homily, Very Rev. Fr. Lewis Mutachila thanked God for the gift of Fr. Peter Chilufya and his tireless service to the Church. He emphasized the importance of gratitude in all circumstances—whether good or bad—encouraging the faithful to “see the glass half full rather than half empty,” and to be thankful even for the half that is full. He reminded the congregation that everything in life comes from God and is a gift to be cherished, including the sacred priesthood. Fr. Mutachila noted that the priestly ministry is not an easy one and urged the faithful to support their priests through prayer and encouragement. He further highlighted the need for mutual respect and compassion within the Christian community, reminding all to live by the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”.
