St. Maximillian Kolbe celebrates 50 years.
St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in Kawama was a place of joy and thanksgiving as it marked 50 years of existence with a colourful Golden Jubilee celebration. The highlight of the day was the Jubilee Mass, celebrated by His Grace, Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri, who was warmly welcomed by the parish priest, Rev. Fr. E. Rafiki. Several clergy joined the celebration, adding to the festive spirit. During the Mass, 61 candidates received the Sacrament of Confirmation, while 11 communion helpers were officially commissioned to serve in the parish. The solemn occasion was made more special by the Archbishop’s inspiring homily, in which he reflected on the true meaning of a Jubilee. He described it as a time of reflection and reconciliation, urging the faithful to honestly examine whether, in the past 50 years, their faith has borne real fruits in their personal lives, families, and communities. Archbishop Phiri cautioned against living double-standard lives and called on all to return sincerely to God, assuring them of God’s readiness to receive them with love and mercy. He reminded the congregation that the Jubilee was not only a celebration of the past but also a call to deeper renewal and commitment for the future. After Mass, the Archbishop proceeded to bless the newly constructed Grotto, a significant symbol of devotion for the parish community. The day ended on a joyful note, filled with vibrant singing from the choir and a spirit of unity among all present.
