Journey to deliver donated goods to Malawi flagged off

Today, 10th May 2023, a flag-off ceremony was held at Cathedral of Christ the King Parish to send the donated assorted goods to Malawi. A six-member Diocesan delegation team headed by Rev. Fr. Bernard Kapembwa (Diocesan Director of Social programmes and projects) will deliver the goods to the Episcopal Conference of Malawi. These donations have been necessitated by the trail of destruction left by Tropical Cyclone Freddy in which over 300 people lost their lives, others injured, both public and private infrastructure destroyed, and bridges washed away.

On behalf of his Lordship, Rt. Rev. Dr. Benjamin Phiri JCD- Bishop of Ndola Diocese, the Vicar General – Very Rev. Fr. Lewis Mutachila read his speech expressing Bishop Phiri’s heartfelt gratitude to all Parishes and their Parish Priests, Religious institutes, individuals, Catholic Institutions and organizations for all donations in form of material and financial assistance. The contribution will make a significant difference in lives of those affected by the natural disaster. He further said “we are humbled by your kindness and compassion. Your generosity is a testimony to the power of community and the importance of coming together in time of crisis to support those in need.”

The Minister in his speech thanked the Catholic church for being practical (action oriented) not only preaching by mere words. He promised to continue working with the Church as it was demonstrated in the joint flagging off the trip to Malawi. He thanked all those who contributed and called on other Churches to emulate this spirit of solidarity and charity to the people in need.
Below are the highlights.
