St. Mary’s Mission celebrates Diamond Jubilee.

Catholic Diocese of Ndola Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr. Bishop Benjamin Phiri over the weekend visited  St. Mary’s Mission in Lufwanyama District to grace the 75th anniversary celebrations.

The community of St. Mary’s Mission and surrounding outstations  celebrated a Diamond Jubilee Mass with Bishop Dr. Phiri as the main celebrant. During  Mass, the Bishop conferred the sacrament of confirmation on 30 candidates.

After Mass Bishop Phiri commissioned a new VIP ablution and led the ground ceremony for the construction of the Grotto and the Adoration Chapel, which will become a new spiritual home for the community.

Earlier on Saturday, June 24th, 2023, the community of St. Mary’s Mission in Lufwanyama District gathered in the morning for Mass led by Bishop Phiri in which Prayer leaders and Communion helpers were commissioned to serve in the church by the Chief Shepherd.

To aid them in their duties, four bicycles were later presented to Prayer leaders and Communion helpers. The Bishop later met Chief Shibuchinga of the Lamba people of Lufwanyama, he also toured St. Mary’s Mission Hospital, which is run by the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Assisi.

The community of St. Mary’s Mission and community leaders furthermore invited the bishop for entertainment punctuated by music, dance, and refreshments.
