Easter Vigil Mass

Easter Vigil Mass

The Easter Vigil was solemnly and joyfully celebrated on,19th April 2025,at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Ndola, presided over by Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri, JCD. This sacred liturgy marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the foundation of Christian faith and the triumph of light over darkness. The celebration began with the blessing of the Easter fire, the lighting of the Paschal candle, and the proclamation of the Exsultet. Scripture readings traced God’s saving work throughout history, preparing the faithful for the joy of the resurrection. In his homily, Archbishop Phiri spoke of the Risen Lord as a sign of hope for all people and a reason to celebrate. He warned against becoming too comfortable with life on earth, reminding the faithful that heaven is our true home, and we must be ready to meet our Maker with joy and a pure heart. During the Mass, 16 candidates were baptized by Very Rev. Fr. Lewis Mutachila, the Vicar General, and later confirmed by the Archbishop. The lay faithful also had the opportunity to renew their baptismal promises, recommitting themselves to Christ. The Easter Vigil concluded in a spirit of great joy, as the Church celebrated Christ’s victory over death.
