Mass for Vocations.
On 25th April 2026, Ndola Archbishop, Dr. Benjamin Phiri, JCD, celebrated Mass at the Cathedral of Christ the King to pray for vocations, coinciding with the feast of Saint Mark the Evangelist. The celebration brought together various religious congregations and consecrated institutions, who gathered in unity to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. In his homily, Archbishop Phiri spoke on the importance of discerning the call of God. He explained that God’s call is often not a loud, audible voice, but begins as a gentle interest or desire that grows stronger over time. He likened vocations to plants that require constant nurturing in order to grow. He emphasized the need for intentional spiritual growth through prayer, retreats, and seminars, noting that these are essential in strengthening one’s vocation. He also highlighted the importance of discipline, stating that every vocation has rules that must be followed, and that obedience is a key ingredient in living out one’s calling. He cautioned that if obedience feels too burdensome, one may need to reconsider a vocation to the priesthood or religious life. The Archbishop encouraged the faithful to live Christ-centered lives, removing anything that distances them from God. He also urged them to foster a close relationship with the Blessed Virgin Mary, noting that her intercession plays an important role in guiding and strengthening vocations. He concluded by affirming that when one is truly called and remains rooted in a deep, personal relationship with God, nothing can ultimately prevent them from fulfilling that vocation. After Mass, the Archbishop took time to visit various stands where different congregations and consecrated groups showcased their charisms and missions. The celebration ended joyfully, leaving many inspired to reflect more deeply on their calling and commitment to God.
