Today, 12th January 2022, Rev. Fr. Collins Chansa was put to rest at Francisdale Mission cemetery. Mass was celebrated at Fatima Girls school Chapel by Bishop of Ndola Diocese- Rt. Rev. Dr. Benjamin Phiri and concelebrated by Rt. Rev. Charles Kasonde- Bishop of Solwezi Diocese and Rt. Rev. Edwin Mulandu- Bishop of Mpika Diocese. Below is his Life history and appointments.

LIFE HISTORY OF FR. COLLINS C. CHANSA

Fr. Collins Chileshe Chansa was born on 25th April 1960 in Luanshya. He was baptized on 22th June 1960 at Uganda Martyrs Parish. He did his Primary school education at Kansumbi Primary 1967-1973 in Luanshya did his Secondary School education at Mpatamatu 1974-1975 in Luanshya and Chifubu Secondary in Ndola 1976 – 1978. He studied at the Minor Seminary at Franciscan Centre, Ndola. After he completed Form 5, he was enlisted for the National Service and passed out on 15th June 1979 and immediately entered the Major Seminary to train as a priest. He pursued his Philosophical and Religious studies at Mpima Major Seminary in Kabwe from 1979 – 1982. He then pursued his Theological studies at St. Dominic Major Seminary in Lusaka from 1982-1985. He was ordained deacon on 29th July, 1984 at St. Dominic’s Major Seminary in Lusaka by H.E. Archbishop George Zur, Apostolic Nuncio to Zambia. He was ordained a priest on 4th August, 1985 in Kalulushi by the late Bishop Dennis H. De Jong.

APPOINTMENTS/ ACADEMIC STUDIES:

1985 – 1986 – Curate, St. Joseph, Buchi Parish & St. Joseph Mukasa, Kwacha-Bulangililo Parish in Kitwe; 1986-1990 – Priest In-charge at St. Peter, Ipusukilo Parish in Kitwe and Chaplain, Blessed Annuarite, Chipata Compound Parish in Kitwe run by White Sisters (MSOLA); 1990-1992 – Rector, Mount Olivet Training Centre, Mufulira and Chaplain of St. Theresa Parish run by the White Sisters (MSOLA); also he served as Diocesan Vocations Director 1992-1996-Studied Clinical Psychology at Gregorian University in Rome, Italy 1996 – 2002 – Vocations Director and Rector, Mount Olivet Training Centre in Mufulira also served as Counselor and Chaplain of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Service In 2004 Studies in International Addiction Counseling Training Programme in Dublin, Ireland. 2004-2010-Parish Priest, St. Joseph, Itawa Parish, Ndola 2010-2012-Parish Priest, St. Antonio Fasani, Pamodzi Parish, Ndola. 2013 – 2020 – Parish Priest, St. Francis Parish, Kalulushi. 2020-2022 -Jesuit Centre, Parklands in Kitwe. Fr. Chansa, will be greatly remembered for his dedicated service and immense contributions in Seminary formation of many of the priests in the Diocese and beyond. He will also be fondly remembered for his immerse contributions in counseling in the Psycho-Socio Counseling Fr. Chansa died in his sleep at his residence in Parklands, Kitwe in the morning of Monday, 10th January 2022. He was put to rest on Wednesday, 12th January, 2022 at Francisdale Cemetery, Ndola.
