HOLY THURSDAY

HOLY THURSDAY

Yesterday, on the solemn feast of Maundy Thursday, the Church commemorated the institution of the Holy Priesthood and the Eucharist by Jesus Christ. Archbishop, Dr. Benjamin Phiri, JCD, presided over Holy Mass at the Cathedral of Christ the King. The liturgy was celebrated in three significant parts: the Eucharistic celebration, the Washing of the Feet, and the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. This sacred day marks the beginning of the Easter Triduum, the most important period in the Christian liturgical calendar. In his homily, the Archbishop emphasized the importance of true repentance. He cautioned the faithful against returning to the very things they had renounced during the Lenten season after Easter. He called for genuine reflection and conversion of heart, warning against taking the gift of salvation for granted. The Archbishop encouraged the faithful to live out their faith authentically, embracing the grace offered through the sacraments, especially during this holy season. The Mass concluded in a solemn and reflective atmosphere, with reverence for the approaching Passion and death of our Lord Jesus Christ.
