Palm Sunday at St. John the Evangelist Parish.
On Sunday, 29th March 2026, Ndola Archdiocese Archbishop, Dr. Benjamin Phiri, made a pastoral visit to St. John the Evangelist Parish. He was warmly welcomed by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Tobechukwu Ugwu, SMA. The day began with the blessing of palms at the Kamfinsa Correctional Facility, followed by a solemn and vibrant procession to the church. The procession was a grand and moving event, bringing together Catholics and members of the United Church of Zambia (UCZ). Parishioners sang joyfully while waving palms, symbolizing the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem. Holy Mass followed, during which the Archbishop delivered a powerful and reflective homily. He noted that many Christians have become accustomed to hearing the same readings to the point where they risk becoming mere routine rather than a living reality. He challenged the faithful to reflect deeply on the authenticity of their Christianity, questioning whether they are truly living as followers of Christ and whether they are willing to undergo true conversion. The Archbishop reminded the congregation that God is not like man, and that all hidden things will one day be revealed. He emphasized that while God is merciful and has given humanity time to repent, the Day of Judgment is coming, and all must be prepared. He cautioned that it would be a great loss for someone to spend their life serving in the Church, such as singing in the choir or holding leadership roles, yet fail to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. After Mass, the Archbishop commissioned Communion Helpers to assist the priest in the distribution of the Holy Eucharist. The celebration concluded joyfully, leaving the faithful spiritually enriched and challenged to deepen their commitment to Christ.
