Christmas Day Mass
The faithful of St. Anthony of Padua Parish gathered in joy on Christmas Day for the Holy Mass celebrated by His Grace, Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri. The Archbishop was warmly received by the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Eliam Phiri, together with the clergy and the parish community, as they came together to mark the solemn celebration of the birth of Christ. In his homily, Archbishop Phiri reflected on the greatness of God who humbled Himself by taking on human nature in order to raise humanity to a divine life. He emphasized that the mystery of the Incarnation reveals God’s deep love for all people and calls believers to live in a way that honors this gift. The Archbishop warned against careless celebrations that have little or nothing to do with the true meaning of Christmas, noting that the feast deserves reverence, respect, and gratitude. He reminded the faithful that before God, all people are equal, and each person is entrusted with gifts that must be used responsibly for God’s glory and the good of others. He cautioned against misusing God and the Church to justify sinful behavior, stressing that Christmas should never become an excuse to fall deeper into sin. Sadly, he observed, the true meaning of Christmas has been lost by some who focus on excess rather than on Christ. The Archbishop concluded by urging the faithful to fear God, hold firmly to Christ, and live lives that reflect the faith they profess. The celebration ended in fellowship with a shared luncheon.
