Closure of the Jubilee Year of Hope.
The Archdiocese marked the joyful closure of the Jubilee Year of Hope with a solemn celebration of the Feast of the Holy Family, presided over by His Grace, Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri. The Eucharistic celebration brought together clergy, religious, and the lay faithful in thanksgiving for the graces received during the Jubilee Year and in prayer for Christian families. In his homily, Archbishop Phiri reflected deeply on the model of the Holy Family of Nazareth and its relevance to families today. He emphasized the responsibility of men to be faithful leaders in their homes, calling on husbands to love their wives sincerely, care for their children, and remain committed to the marriage covenant. He reminded men that true leadership in the family is rooted in love, sacrifice, and responsibility. Addressing wives, the Archbishop spoke on the importance of respect and mutual submission within marriage, noting that harmony in the family is built on love, understanding, and cooperation. He strongly underscored the sanctity of marriage, describing it as a sacred institution established by God and meant to be protected and honored by society. The Archbishop further urged families to become a light within their communities, living in a way that reflects Christian values. He called on parents to take seriously their duty of raising children with discipline and instilling the Catholic faith in them from an early age. He warned against negative influences, particularly the misuse of social media, which he said is increasingly dividing families and weakening family bonds. The celebration fittingly concluded the Jubilee Year of Hope, sending families forth renewed in faith, unity, and hope.
