Christmas Vigil Mass
The Cathedral of Christ the King in Ndola was filled with joy and reverence on the night of 24th December 2025 as the faithful gathered for the Christmas Vigil Mass, celebrated by His Grace, Archbishop Dr. Benjamin Phiri. The solemn yet joyful liturgy marked the birth of Jesus Christ and ushered in the celebration of Christmas with prayer, song, and thanksgiving. In his homily, Archbishop Phiri reminded the congregation that the miracle of the birth of Jesus is a powerful sign of God’s great love for humanity. He emphasized that Christmas is not merely a historical event, but a living mystery that calls believers to recognize God’s presence in their daily lives. The Archbishop urged the faithful to see Jesus in one another and to treat their neighbors with dignity and compassion, since every person is created in the image of God. He further encouraged the faithful to discern their time of visitation from God, noting that God continues to visit His people in ordinary moments and through one another. Archbishop Phiri stressed the importance of having a true and living faith, one that goes beyond words and is expressed through genuine service to others. He cautioned against using the Church to advance personal ambitions, whether political or otherwise, and called for sincerity of heart in one’s relationship with God. The Mass concluded in a joyful atmosphere, with vibrant singing and a deep sense of gratitude, as the faithful celebrated the gift of Emmanuel God with us.
